Following a rather tumultuous tenure by Themba Ndlela, Peter Dube stepped up
and got the confidence of the voters in an election held at the Highlanders Club
House. The Highlanders Football Club elections followed the Annual General
Meeting at the same venue a week ago.
Peter Dube beat the incumbent by 184 votes to 143 while Mandla Moyo amassed
23 votes. The outgoing Chairman, Ndlela pledged to support the newly elected
Dube and his committee.
Ndlela had taken a debt ridden Highlanders FC that faced legal actions over
unpaid bills and wages and the Club property attached by the Deputy Sheriff.
Andrew Tapela beat Emmett Ndlovu and Donald Ndebele to retain his Secretary
General portfolio. Tapela received 153 votes to Ndlovu 147 and 55 for
Ndebele.
The committee member position went to Charles Moyo with 130 votes while
Wisdom Mabhena got 122 compared to D Mabhena who managed 99.
The new beginning for the oldest football club benefited from the balanced
committee as Dube will have to work with those with inside information. This is
expected to provide smooth hand-over and take over.

Highlanders have a very efficient voting system and the people on the ground have spoken and all true Bosso people have to unite and support their choices and the system!!!!

Congratulations to Highlanders for holding an orderly election. It speaks volumes about the civility of the cultural values of the people of Mthwakazi. There were no losers or winners. A big thank you to Temba Ndlela and his outgoing executive for a job well done. I am confident that there will be a smooth transition to the new executive and we wish them well in their future endeavours. Congratula...tions to Peter Dube. I read the Chairman's report and was impressed. The foundation for the future success of Highlanders has been laid. Phambili lamazinyane esilo!! Mthwakazi ondlela zimhlophe. It is important to recognise that the previous executive members have an important role to play in the future of Highlanders. Let us desist from the culture of hate politics and learn to appreciate the efforts of people who sacrifice their valuable time for the success of Highlanders.

The club is still in red and a speedy solution is required pronto, I think the debt is around $350 K thereabout, and my concern was some of the external debtors like ZIMRA & NSSA. I hope Kaindu will not turn out to be another Fathi factor for us, supposing the unthinkable happens and we fail to pay him. I think we learnt a lot from that case, and if we fail to have the Bank ABC sponsorship we rather have contigent measures on time before accruing more debts particularly on the technical team. Elections have come and gone, faces are inconsequential and the winner should always be the team that is called Highlanders. I salute everyone who has made an effort i trying to make the team a better team. Currently I dont think we have a team that is capable of bringing titles, and hence there is an urgent need to get resources and sign quality and experienced players who will at least assist those youngsters to develop much better.
